Rush for Diamond tickets expected
13 September 2004
Tickets for Neil Diamond’s one-off Christchurch concert are expected to be snapped up quickly when they go on sale today.
The veteran American musician broke box office records when he last came to Christchurch. Promoters of his March 2005 concert are predicting another sell-out.
Diamond’s success in New Zealand is unparalleled – he has sold more than a quarter of a million records here. His highest-selling album in New Zealand, Hot August Night, was one of the biggest-selling albums on the New Zealand charts in the 1970s.
Promoter Paul Dainty said tickets for Diamond’s Christchurch concert, scheduled for March 7 at the Westpac Trust Centre, would be priced from $60 to $99.50, plus ticket agency charges.
“Neil had always had a thing about keeping ticket prices down for his fans. It is all totally driven by him,” Mr Dainty said.
Tickets go on sale at 9am today.
Diamond is also performing in Wellington, on March 5, at the Westpac Stadium.
