Beautiful Noise Musical

Could there be a release of an expanded Beautiful Noise Album to coincide with the musical?

Neil has been very quiet for some time now, either means he is busy or perhaps not at his best? I suspect he is preoccupied with the upcoming musical, but could also be working on the Album for a re-release?

Also he did say he was working on new material around 2 years back, but nothing has been rumoured since then!! anyone heard anything?

  1. Cast album

Probably the only thing we will see from the musical is a cast album from the show, which is traditional for a Broadway show.  The album you referred to, was released, the London Symphony album.  I posted the article here about it (it even mentioned Stevie Wonder on the album, which he was).  The new material comment, was probably new recordings, not new songs.  Beyond that it’s hard to say what ND will do.  Maybe he is still writing a new song or two in Colorado where he generally has held up thru COVID.  My guess the next releases will come from the vaults now that Universal controls the material.

Beautiful Noise – expanded,  would be good start of the “from the vaults”

Only one extra song, but outtakes produced by Robbie Robertson might be interesting.

  2. Beautiful Noise LP 1976

One song, “Listen” was on the original test pressing, but was removed.  My brother and I have the song.

  3. Listen

We don’t have the test pressing, but we knew somebody that has it.  He just sent us the song.  We have a whole bunch of songs approximately 15 Neil recorded and never released.  If you send me your email address, we will send you list of songs we have, including two which was never released in the U.S.   We would like to have Neil’s recording of “Where do You run?  We have Billy Fury’s version of Where Do You Run? among other songs that Neil wrote by himself and with others that ND never recorded and/or released that other singers have recorded.  We have a total of 29 of them, from 1962 to 2000’s.

We hope Neil would put together a project of unreleased songs and releasing them.  There is one song that Neil wrote and recorded on 9/3/63 and tried snd get it released and had no luck, he said, “nobody would touch it, not even the record companies.”   The song, I’m talking about is “I’m A Man.”  it is one hellva powerful song ND wrote.   We have the Benny Earl version on Neil’s and David Rosner’s record label, Jaybern.  We also have Brook Benton’s version on the Warner Brothers label.

  4. Thanks

We communicated a couple of months ago.  I was intrigued that “Listen” made it to the test pressing stage.  Also, I could kinda see why it got pulled, but my version is probably third generation cassette tape, so not necessarily a fair audio hearing.

  5. New Album

    Thanks.

I thought Neil referred to “new material” he was working on after the Symphony disc was released. In fact he has said in nearly every interview since he retired from touring that he was writing new material.

Should have released the BN album on the 40th anniversary, never happened though.

He has gone very quiet, I hope he is ok and working on the upcoming musical in some respect, and that we may get a new album, 2014 was the last one which is a long old time ago now.

  6. New recordings

I don’t believe that Neil Diamond is much involved making the musical or by releasing recordings from the vaults. He’s been asked here and there…As Universal Music bought the rights of ND’s recordings and songs there was stated that there was an unreleased album included. Maybe a possible release soon? Is it the “Story Of My Life” album that was cancelled by Columbia because it was too melancholic? Or is it an album from the last years? The deal included also a lot of unreleased songs. Maybe only on paper? Or recordings? Who knows?

ND said that he writes new material, songs about his illness and also happier stuff. So he writes…

  7. Unreleased Recordings

The press release from Universal clearly stated 110 unreleased  tracks, one unreleased album and video material.  I don’t think TSOML album is the unreleased one, because 9 of 10 songs on that album have been released.  Most of the American Popular Songs album songs have been released, too (15 out 20 approximately).  The original Primitive has 3 unreleased songs.

Possibly, the mythical album is the one referenced in the book by Grossman from the early 1980’s, possibly produced by Jeff Barry and has duet with Diana Ross, Motown Days.

Or possibly Live at the Forum 1983… Completed 3 LPs.

  8. New Stuff

I’m sure Neil is completely involved in the upcoming musical, tweeted when the lead was announced!!!

TSOML is not the album, as has been alluded to here, most of this was released in one format or another. There were outakes during the MR recordings!! I’m sure there are countless, but, as for a whole new album indicated in the recent deal, I don’t believe anyone has an idea of what this may or may not relate to.

I must say I expected a “brand new recording” by now, although the pandemic could have put it on hold, saying that many artistes have released new stuff during this, but, I guess Neil has to be careful with his health!

Be good to get some new stuff!! I’m sure he has plenty to say after 8 years!!
